Microsoft and Sony can't touch Nintendo

Nintendo is one of the biggest companies in the gaming market, thanks to the fact that it has two very successful consoles, the Wii and the DS, and a lot of best-selling franchises, like Mario or Zelda. But one of the biggest attributes of the Japanese company is its innovation.

This manifested in the new motion controls that were released alongside the Wii when it was first launched. The fact that it made gamers get off their seats and start moving around made them a hit with more casual players.

Now, after E3 last week, it seems that both Microsoft and Sony are ready to take on Nintendo in terms of motion controls, both announcing new technologies that will be implemented for their respective consoles in the near future.

When asked about how he felt in regards to these new announcements and if Nintendo was worried about them, famous video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the “father” of Mario and Zelda, laughed and said that he wasn't worried at all, because the Japanese company had too much experience in the field, and that, thanks to the upcoming Wii MotionPlus add-on, Nintendo would still be more successful.

“Not worried at all,” Miyamoto stated. “The fact that both of those companies are looking at finding ways to get the gamer off the couch, taking advantage of MC, and really getting the gamer to control the game by moving their body, shows that No. 1 they've looked at what we've done with Wii, and seen the value in that. And now they're moving in the same direction that we have already established. We've been experimenting with motion control for over five years now. Based on the announcements we've seen here at E3, it seems these other two companies have really only been experimenting with this only very recently. It looks like they're still in their initial stages and are trying to create experiences that at this point don't have the type of depth that we're able to provide with Wii Motion Plus.”

So, although Microsoft's Project Natal and Sony's yet unnamed technology will certainly have an impact on gamers, Nintendo is confident that they will still return to the console they have known for a few years now.
