Nicole Richie’s slender, close-to-skeletal frame has often generated talk of an eating disorder, with rumors insisting she was unhealthy and probably malnourished, no matter how much she denied it. Now pregnant with her second child, the singer, actress, television personality and fashionista has discovered that balance is what works best for her in terms of maintaining her figure and staying in shape, as How Celebrities Lose Weight informs.

Nicole admitted in the past to having serious issues with her weight, which eventually led her down a path of self-destruction, where she would eat close to nothing an entire day for fear the pounds would start piling on again. After giving birth to Harlow Winter, the star has discovered that the best way to lose weight – and not necessarily baby weight – is by approaching it in a balanced manner. What this means is that fad diets are ruled out from the start, since they lead to yo-yo-ing weight and are, at the end of the day, virtually useless.

For Richie, the proper diet consists of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, which help her lose weight while also keeping her healthy. Another thing that the star does to make sure she drops a few pounds or maintains her figure as it is, depending on the case, is drink plenty of water. “You must also increase the daily water intake. It is necessary to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day when you are intending to lose the extra pounds naturally.” HCLW writes. Nicole Richie is reportedly also a fan of Acai berry, the Brazilian food known as the “true superfood for dieters.”

Where working out is concerned, here too Richie focuses more on staying healthy than achieving a certain number over a given period of time. As a matter of fact, the star rarely pays attention to how much she weighs, since she knows from past experience that obsessing over numbers can have the most disastrous consequences. Instead, she works with a personal trainer and a nutritionist to make sure she gets enough energy from food to be able to do whatever workout her trainer designs for her. When not at the gym, Richie can be found hiking with her family, one of her favorite spare-time activities and workout routines.

“Stagger your cardio workout by switching up which machines / activities you use. For example, if you do the treadmill one day, alternate the next by doing the elliptical machine or stationary bike. Temper your cardio workout with weight-training exercises to help you build muscle slowly. If you are going to use both machines and weights during the same exercise, warm up first, then use weights and then use the cardio machines.” HCLW writes, based on Nicole Richie’s model.
