Actress Nicole Kidman has never made a secret of her fertility problems. After Sunday Rose was born two years ago, she and husband Keith Urban wanted another child, but found they couldn’t, she says in a recent interview cited by People

magazine.

This is how they came to consider the possibility of using a gestational carrier or a surrogate mother in layman terms.

While the announcement that she and Keith had just welcomed into their family a second daughter, Faith, came as a shock right after the Golden Globes 2011, Nicole has chosen not to speak about it too much in following interviews.

This literally marks the first time she speaks about the decision to have the baby delivered through a surrogate mother and the pain that went behind such a decision.

“[I] had a roller coaster ride with fertility. Anyone that’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying and struggling with fertility,” Nicole says.

“Fertility is such a big thing, and it’s not something I’ve ever run away from talking about,” she adds.

When she and Keith realized they would not be blessed with a second child by natural birth, they decided to try an alternative method. Fortunately, it worked.

“We were in a place of desperately wanting another child. This opportunity arose for us, and I couldn’t get pregnant,” she says.

Nicole Kidman, like any mother, desperately loves her children: her two daughters with Keith and her two adopted children with ex husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 18, and Connor, 15.

There are times though when she wishes things had been different, when she wishes Isabella and Connor had lived with her, but it’s not like she can do anything to change that.

“Children are children – you’ll die for your children. And when you feel that as parent – that’s the unconditional love,” she says of her extended and happy family.
