Dolby Laboratories has been actively involved in the field of 3D display solutions and glasses for quite some time, and now, the company's back with yet another very interesting offering, in the form of its next-generation Dolby 3D glasses.

Before moving to the actual features these new 3D solutions have in store, we'll have to point out that they're touted as being fully compatible with all the Dolby 3D Digital Cinema systems currently installed, which will make them particularly popular with all the operators of such venues (which also represent the new glasses' targeted market segment).

According to Dolby, their new passive 3D glasses sport a new scratch-resistant multilayer optical film lens, developed in collaboration with 3M, designed to significantly reduce their overall weight, while in the same time offering a higher level of comfort during use.

And speaking of comfort, it's important to also point out that these new glasses sport a more robust mechanical design, with a brand-new nylon frame equipped with wide side temples and a shelf along the top edge of the frames that prevents extraneous light from entering the glasses, delivering an enhanced level of optical performance.

Furthermore, the glasses can apparently be used with over 98 percent of prescription glasses and are also capable of going through many wash cycles, which means that they can be reused hundreds of times.

Plus, for security purposes, beside the antitheft tag included in previous generations of Dolby 3D glasses, the new Dolby 3D glasses also include individually serialized RFID tags, that can also be employed for inventory tracking and management.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that each pair of 3D glasses is actually quite affordable, selling for just around 12 US dollars, which is sure to make them quite popular with 3D theater owners.
