Activision held its earnings call yesterday, but declined to actually reveal its next Call of Duty game, limiting itself to saying that it's going to set a new standard for the blockbuster franchise.

Many Call of Duty fans were expecting the announcement of the next game in the series, presumably Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, at yesterday's investors call made by Activision, the publisher of the franchise.

That didn't happen, but it doesn't mean that executives from the company didn't brag about some of the features included in the next Call of Duty game.

"By any measure, Call of Duty is one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world and we expect this year's game will set a new standard in the franchise," said Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg.

"The creative excellence and sheer scale of the game we are making, and the unprecedented online universe that will accompany it will reset the bar for this genre, giving players a new level of immersion, connectivity, community and of course epic action. The game to date has exceeded every internal milestone and we look forward to showing it to sharing it with you soon."

"Soon" may mean that Activision is planning to debut the new Call of Duty game at next month's E3 conference in Los Angeles.

The company was also extremely excited about the Beachhead Call of Duty project, which is set to offer a multiplayer-only experience, and, together with the new full-pledged game, they are going to please many Call of Duty fans.

"This year's Call of Duty has a very high bar to exceed. We believe this year's Call of Duty initiatives will result in the best Call of Duty experiences we have created to date,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

Activision once again promised that it is going to unleash a huge marketing campaign after the official announcement of the new Call of Duty game, meaning that gamers and non-gamers won't be able to shield their eyes from the onslaught of information about the new shooter.
