Microsoft might be rolling new vertical live tiles

Microsoft indeed revealed the Start screen of the new Windows 10 for phones during the January 21 event at its headquarters in Redmond, but it appears that the software giant is actually working on even more changes that could be shipped to users in the coming months.

Living proof is a screenshot posted by Microsoft employee Vesku Paananen, who tweeted a screenshot revealing the Start screen of the new Windows 10 for phones OS, and which also included, among the traditional elements, a new larger and vertical live tile configuration.

While it's hard to tell if this looks good or not on Windows phone, there's no doubt that some people find it useless, especially because it takes up too much space on the screen.

The screenshot, which was spotted by BestMobileBlog (via WindowsCentral), has already been removed, which could be a sign that the Microsoft employee tweeted it by mistake and this tweak isn't yet ready to be presented to users.

Windows 10 for phones preview coming anytime soon

Little is known right now about the launch of Windows 10 for phones preview, but sources close to the matter have revealed that approximately 1,000 testers have already received an early build, which could be a sign that everyone else could get it in the coming days.

Microsoft said on January 21 that Windows 10 for phones preview would ship in early February, but it appears that the company is looking to roll it out in stages, so not everyone might be getting it at the same time.

Windows 10 for phones preview will be offered as part of a new Windows Insider program that will allow anyone to install the early tidbits of the operating system on their devices, with the risk of coming across bugs and issues that could significantly affect the overall experience.

All Windows Phone 8.1 devices can run Windows 10 for Phones, Microsoft has said, but low-end models might lack some functionality that requires more powerful hardware.
