One of the most popular applications on mobile devices, foursquare, has just been updated on the Symbian platform with a series of changes that affect the way in which it operates.

Apparently, the new flavor of the application is meant to completely replace the existing version, which should start working a the end of this week.

Users who would like to continue enjoying the capabilities of foursquare on their Symbian phones should download and install the new flavor of the software.

“If you use Foursquare on your Symbian phone, now is the time to upgrade your app,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations reads.

“Changes to the way Foursquare operates mean that the old app will stop working from Monday, but there’s a new one already available in Ovi Store that will continue to communicate properly with the service,” the blog post continues.

The new version of the mobile application was designed so as to work with the new Foursquare version 2 API, but it should offer the same features as the old app.

“Apart from the fact that it will work with the new Foursquare version 2 API – a pretty crucial feature, there’s not a lot of difference in the way the app operates,” the said blog post continues.

Those who would like to give it a try should head over to the Ovi Store to download it, or can go here to have a download link sent to their devices. Those who already had the app installed will be notified on the availability of the new update.

The new version of the mobile software was made available for all handsets that run under Symbian 3rd & 5th edition, as well as for handsets powered by the new Symbian^3 operating system.

The aforementioned API was already included in the Series 40 foursquare application that was made available several weeks ago.
