Sony unveiled quite a few consumer electronics and audio products lately, but now it is looking towards a different set of consumers, the so-called notebook computing segment.

There are many laptops on today's market, covering a wide range of sizes and performance specifications.

The VAIO S series from Sony is one that does its best to integrate good performance while still featuring a significant level of aesthetic appeal, among other things.

Convenience is also something that the VAIO S strives to achieve, even if all this does come in exchange for a higher-than-usual price.

Granted, the exact tag of the new VAIO S has not been given, but with availability scheduled for September 2011 (this month), in Singapore anyway, this tidbit shouldn't take long to show up.

Indeed, Sony has developed a new member for the VAIO S line, or at least this is what this particular report claims.

It has a screen diagonal length of 15.5 inches and relies on an Intel Core i7 central processing unit, as well as discrete graphics.

Yes, the performance level is quite high, with the powerful CPU and the AMD Radeon HD 6630M 1 GB (VRAM) GPU.

In addition to the above, there is an unspecified, but no doubt large, RAM (random access memory) capacity, plus the expected connectivity and I/O options (Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, USB, etc.).

Other things that were specifically mentioned are a backlit keyboard, an aluminum palm rest and magnesium construction for most of the PC case.

As for the VAIO Display Plus screen itself, it boasts Full HD support (native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and anti-reflective properties.

All in all, the machine has a weight of 1.96 kilograms and, as a final perk, the Performance Switch, which will choose between “Speed” and “Stamina” modes (performance and battery life, respectively) at users' will (charge life is 5 hours, or 10 with Sheet Battery).
