The Sony Store website was recently updated to include a listing of the 16GB and 32GB versions of the Tablet S, both of these devices being now available for pre-order with prices set at $500 and $600, respectively.

According to the listing, the two tablet versions should become available “on or about” 16 September, and users who have placed a pre-order for these will be informed via an e-mail when the products will start shipping.

We had the chance of going hands on with Sony's Tablet S during the IFA 2011 fair that took place in Berlin earlier this week, and while we were impressed with the build quality and performance of the device, the retail prices seemed more than a bit too high for our liking.

As far as the specs of the tablet are concerned, this is based on Google's 3.1 version of the Android mobile operating system (also known as Honeycomb) and is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip (SoC).

This include a pair of Cortex A9 ARM cores clocked at 1GHz as well as a GeForce graphics unit for delivering an impressive UI performance.

The rest of the specifications list includes a 5MP rear and a 0.3MP front facing camera, both with support for video recording, a full size SD card slot, Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity with DLNA support, as well as 1GB of internal memory and a non-removable Li-Ion 5000mAh battery.

The screen measures 9.4-inch in diagonal and it sports a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels.

Other than the standard features available in Google's Honeycomb 3.1 operating system, Sony's creation also boasts a couple of unique features, such as PlayStation game compatibility and an integrated infrared sensor.

The latter can be used for controlling a wide series of remote operated devices throughout the home, such as HDTVs, Blu-ray players or networked media centers, no matter if they are built by Sony or not. (via Intomobile)
