The Buffalo MiniStation series of storage products is not exactly a new arrival on the consumer market, but it looks like the outfit plans to add a new batch of drives to the portfolio, dubbed MiniStation Plus.

Buffalo is one of those companies on the IT market that has a whole bunch of data storage products out and about, or just waiting to be released.

In other words, it deals in a host of internal and/or portable optical drives, hard disk drives and solid state drives, with or without the latest interface standards.

Turns out that the outfit just provided an official press release in which it discloses that yet another batch of drives has been completed, albeit not yet available.

The series is dubbed MiniStation Plus and is composed of two portable hard disk drives equipped with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface.

For those that want a reminder, the USB 3.0 standard has a maximum theoretical throughput of 5 Gbps, a tenfold increase over USB 2.0.

That said, the new products have more than just their capacity and performance working in their favor, as Buffalo also took note of security.

More precisely, 256-bit AES hardware encryption is present, while the enclosure itself has a measure of shock resistance, for physical endurance.

Another asset is the fact that both models are USB-powered, meaning that they can function on just the power delivered by the USB port, so that an extra, AC adapter is unnecessary, as it should be for a small drive meant to be carried around.

Finally, the newcomers, with capacities of 500 GB and 1 TB, respectively, have one of three colors on their cases (silver, red or black) and are bundled with the Buffalo Tools package of backup, encryption and power management software.

Sales will commence in June, for the prices of $85 (500 GB) and $120 (1TB), complete with one-year warranties.
