Showtime’s killer series “Dexter” is now at season 5 and, as fans must know, it sees Dexter, the beloved blood splatter analyst slash serial killer, in situation he’s never been before, made only more complicated by Lumen.

One of the questions that have been bugging fans ever since the fifth season debuted is whether Lumen (Julia Stiles’ character) will ever become romantically involved with Dexter. Chip Johannessen has the answers.

According to Johannessen speaking to E! Online, though Dexter and Lumen will never be our notion of a romantic couple, there will be some “physicality” to their relationship, hints of which are already apparent in the latest episodes.

“I wouldn’t rule out any physicality completely,” Johannessen says, adding that the two are not “romantic” in the basic sense of the word.

Still, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of them becoming a couple, albeit quite a twisted one, the “Dexter” boss says, making his previous explanation even more confusing.

“This doesn’t look like a conventional romance, because on the one hand [we have] a really damaged person in her, and then we have a serial killer in Dexter. So they have this thing that’s very Dexter-y [and] very, very intense, but it’s not like a romance,” he says.

And, if Dex and Lumen are not falling in love, at least one couple will this season: Quinn and Deb. Earlier on, the two made love in Rita and Dexter’s house, and since then, he’s been having these feelings for Deb.

As it turns out, Johannessen says, it’s precisely this that will prevent Quinn from becoming the new and reinvented Doakes, that is, get to the bottom of it and find out all about Dexter.

“This connection with Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) will grow to be significant for him, so he’s got a lot of stuff to handle,” the show’s boss says.

“[Their relationship] is a major piece that we wanted to play this whole season and we do. Deb’s situation with Quinn, which is just bobbing along at this point, intensifies in one way or the other. Or both,” he adds, again refusing to spill everything out for fans.

However, he says, fans on boards and dedicated forums are on the right path to guessing how this current season will end. No answers have yet been given, but they’re asking all the right questions.
