Sony Ericsson was said recently to plan the release of new, better devices during the ongoing year, and some more info on the matter emerged, including confirmation on the upcoming release of new Sony Ericsson Xperia mini models.

Rumors on the possible upcoming availability of a successor for the company's X10 mini and X10 mini pro devices already emerged into the wild, and now they got a confirmation from a Sony Ericsson official.

According to Steven Walker, head of global marketing at Sony Ericsson, the company plans the release of more than just one mini model during the next 12 months or so.

“There will be subsequent generations of products in these lines as well. We will see new Minis in the future,” he confirmed.

While these devices might not appeal to all users alike, they would certainly attract a certainl market segment on their side, and the handset vendor is certainly placing its bet on this.

“We believe in the concept of product lines and the idea of creating a product experience that will last beyond one hardware generation,” Steven Walker said in an interview with Pocket-lint at CES in Las Vegas.

“I won’t go into specifics, but conceptually all these lines we created in 2010 will roll forward into 2011 and beyond. We want to build on all the Xperia lines and ranges.”

Unfortunately, no specific info on the capabilities and features of these devices emerged for the time being, but, in case Sony Ericsson would follow tradition, these handsets would certainly pack features that are similar with those in their bigger brothers.

The X10 mini handsets came to shelves with similar features as the high-end Xperia X10 smartphone, and even with a similar interface on top of Android.

No info on when would these mobile phones be released emerged either, nor on the price tag they might feature when put on shelves. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson would detail more on them next month during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
