14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is currently pushing the Galaxy S 4 smartphone to shelves in various markets around the world, but some enthusiasts already started to dream of what the successor of this device might bring along.
One such idea has recently materialized in the form of a concept device that sports the pretty obvious name of Galaxy S5, and which also features a folding design.
The smartphone can be admired in the photos attached to this article, available courtesy of mobileaks.nl, with its large touchscreen display that can also be folded.
No specific info on the hardware of this Samsung Galaxy S5 concept phone has been provided as of now, but one could easily imagine that it would include top-of-the-line capabilities, the same as other smartphones in the Galaxy lineup did.
The folding design appears to be the most intriguing feature of the smartphone, though it’s certainly not something impossible to achieve.
For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung actually demoed bendable smartphone displays at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, although no release date for a device that might pack such a panel has been provided.
The Galaxy S5 concept phone is 7.5 millimeters thick, which would double when it is folded.
However, as can be seen in the aforementioned photos with it, it would certainly be much more pocketable when folded, despite the increase in thickness.
The same as the other devices in the Galaxy S lineup, the upcoming smartphone would run under Android, most probably the next major platform release, if we were to assume that it will be launched only in the first quarter of the next year.
We’re still many months away from any official confirmation on a Galaxy S5 smartphone, but this concept device certainly seems interesting, although it might never arrive on shelves in this form. Let us know what you think of it in the comments section.
