Gaming news website Kotaku revealed a rumor according to which a new PSP will come out next spring. For supporting this rumor, they mention the opinions of analyst P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research.

According to him, after Sony reduced its PSP shipment target to 9 million units, they play to have two new types of PSPs launched by spring 2007. He explains that Sony, although experiencing problems with the portable console, decided to redesign it and add some new features in order to create a new one.

P.J. McNealy reveals that Sony plans to launch two new PSPs in the spring of 2007, a hard-drive based model for around US$ 199 and a new flash-based model which will be cheaper retailing at below US$ 199. Kotaku mentions that the new PSP version will have 8GB of built-in flash and that it will still be suing UMD.

The PSP is the only handheld game console manufactured and released by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was first unveiled on May 11 2004 in a Sony press conference but the official launch was on December 12 2004. This November release was only for the Japanese market, as US and Canada inhabitants got their hands on the PSP on March 24, 2005. European had to wait a little more as September 1, 2005 was the release date for Europe.

Maybe with the two new PSP console, the gaming industry will mark a premiere by releasing a games console on all markets at the same time. Just maybe?
