Along with the Compaq 8000f Elite desktops, Hewlett-Packard has also launched two lines of laptops as part of its string of releases set to extend over the next few months. While the desktop models tackled the needs of businesses and reduced carbon footprint, the EliteBook and ProBook notebook lines aim to cover the mobile segment in a similarly power-efficient way.

The durable notebooks introduced by the company are the HP EliteBook 8440w, HP EliteBook 8540w, the HP EliteBook 8440p and HP EliteBook 8540p mobile platforms. The first two have a very strong, full magnesium-alloy chassis and a gunmetal anodized-aluminum finish, as opposed to the last two, which retain the classic platinum anodized-aluminum finish. The actual configurations are very varied, offering a choice of Intel Core i7 or future Intel Core/Core vPro processors, with Intel Unified Mobile Access (UMA) or NVIDIA solutions as graphics.

Regardless of their configuration, however, all EliteBooks are preloaded with HP's affordable HD videoconferencing SkyRoom software, and even HP QuickWeb, which enables Internet access without the need for booting up the laptops themselves.

HP has also introduced new models for the HP ProBook b-series, the HP ProBook 6440b and HP ProBook 6540b. They employ Intel Core processors and 14-inch or 15-inch HD LED widescreen displays and are ideal for users who want an affordable, but powerful performance. In addition, all new HP's laptops use the HP Long Life Battery, which extends the battery lifespan to up to three years, an that is twice as long as that normal li-ion batteries boast, by reducing overall battery waste.

“HP continues to exceed customer expectations with a range of business products designed with both the environment and productivity in mind,” Stephen DeWitt, senior vice president and general manager, Personal Systems Group, Americas, HP, said. “With great designs, energy-saving features and efficient, faster-performing products, customers can feel confident choosing HP products to better position themselves in the ever-competitive business world.”

The HP EliteBooks and the HP ProBook b-series start at $1,299 and $1,099, respectively. They are set to become available in the United States in February. Further information on these products, and more, may be found here.
