14 DAY TRIAL // Over the weekend, Summit Entertainment upped the ante on the promo campaign for the third installment in “The Twilight Saga,” “Eclipse,” with a second official trailer, which shed new light on the plot of the highly anticipated film. Today, as BroadwayWorld can confirm, fans get three brand new character posters.
The pics show the three main protagonists of the teen flick, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. All three are shown against an almost all-black backdrop and, as it has become customary with all “Twilight” related promo materials, include no props: just the actors looking intently into the camera, as the dark forest of Forks looms dangerously from behind.
As fans must already know by now, the third film details the confrontation between the Cullens (the “vegetarian” vampires) and an army of newborns recruited by a blood-thirsty Victoria, whom we saw first in “Twilight” (and who has been replaced in the meantime by Bryce Dallas Howard). The Voulturi also pose a threat as they seem determined to travel to Forks to see whether the Cullens have kept their promise of turning Bella into a vampire, for they cannot allow a mortal to know of the vampires’ existence and this was the condition they agreed to in “New Moon.”
We were also telling you over the weekend that the second trailer approached the story between sparkling and brooding vampire Edward and his equally brooding lady love, mortal Bella, from a different angle than the previous full-length trailer and teaser. Whereas these dwelt mainly with the romantic triangle Edward-Bella-Jacob, the second trailer focused mostly on the action scenes that will be included in the film.
This, of course, came to confirm what members of the cast have been saying for months, namely that “Eclipse” will try to move away from the exclusively female audience, in a bid to get some men into theaters as well: if not for the story and the special effects, at least for the fight sequences. Whether it will manage to do that, only time will tell: “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” arrives in theaters on June 30, 2010.
