Fighting games have been popular for quite some time, as many people wanted to take their favorite wrestler or fighter and pulverize his opponents right from the comfort of their own home. In recent years, such titles have been real moneymakers for the companies that published them, so we'll get to see them even more in the future.

One title that will generate some big waves will be WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, coming from THQ this year and following the success of its predecessors. Arriving on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS on October 20 in the United States, the game promises to generate some big sales for the publisher.

Besides new gameplay tweaks and balances, a new dose of creative freedom and franchise improvements will also be implemented and will provide a big roster of the most famous fighters from the wrestling series.

“WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will put the power of created freedom and shareable, user-generated content directly into the players’ hands, giving them the ability to control the action beyond anything ever witnessed in WWE programming,” said Brian Coleman, vice president, global brand management, THQ. “Combined with new Road to WrestleMania storylines, an impressive roster and other major franchise updates, including our new gameplay experiences on Wii and Nintendo DS, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will be the must-have game for players on October 20.”

The game will introduce a new mode called Create-a-Superstar Mode, which will have new 3D parts and an improved graphical quality that will allow players to create both Superstars and Divas that look just like the characters modeled by the development team. A Paint tool will be at hand to deliver tattoos and unique designs on these new players and to generate new clothes and ring attires for the fighters. Coupled with the Create-a-Finisher mode, which will allow players to generate their own acrobatic diving attacks for use in the ring, the amount of customization is quite large.

Giving even more interesting opportunities, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will debut the WWE Story Designer mode, in which players can take the role of a director and create their own storylines and cut scenes. The ability to select talent and scene locations will be important, as well as writing their own dialog and determining the emotions of the fighters.

All of this user-generated content can be uploaded via the WWE Community Creations interface and lets players boast their skills with friends and family.

Overall, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 is looking extremely attractive. Will you drop your holiday money on this title or have other games caught your attention even more? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.
