A lot of customization

Star Trek has a lot of fans and has been the setting of a few games, without any spectacular result. Even if the intellectual property is very interesting for developers, they have never managed to make players connect with the Star Trek games that have come about.

Now Cryptic is trying to come up with something interesting by creating a Star Trek MMO, a game where a player can take on the role of a citizen of the Galaxy which can get involved with the Federation, the Klingons and other races while exploring the endless depths of space. The developers have not released many details so a new questions and answers session posted on the official site brings more than interesting details.

The game is set to feature at least three distinct types of Starfleet vessels. The game will have Cruisers, which will probably be battle oriented ships, Escorts and Science Vessels. The Klingon fleet will be structured differently, reflecting the way that race approaches space exploration and combat.

As with all the Cryptic games, Star Trek will allow players to modify a host of characteristics related to their on screen personas. Even the uniforms can be edited and transformed to better represent the vision of the player.

The game will also be very open. All types of ships will be available to all types of captains even though the skills and abilities that you choose and the Bridge crew that you have will influence the performance on the different ships. You will also be able to customize everything related to the crew of a ship, from the race, appearance, gender, name and physical appearance to the skills they master and to the career paths that they take.

The people at Cryptic also say that the game will have a lot of planned Player versus Player zones, both in space and on the ground, to encourage conflict within the game.
