Get ready for a new horror experience

The Nintendo Wii is a true sales phenomenon, which offered a lot of people the chance to get into gaming despite the fact that they weren't very interested. It opened up a new market for gaming companies, which they are still barely beginning to exploit.

One company that realized the importance of the Wii is Electronic Arts, which has voiced its intentions to really capitalize on the popularity of the small white Japanese console through various officials and representatives. The first step in this new strategy was announced by the CEO of EA, John Riccitiello, who let it slip that a version of the popular third-person horror shooter Dead Space would arrive on the Wii.

Now, an official statement arrived from the company, which gives more details on the upcoming dismemberment shooter. Entitled Dead Space Extraction, it will be a prequel to the events of Isaac Clarke on board the USG Ishimura space ship, telling the story of a team of survivors led by a heroine who want to get out of the mining colony overrun by a mysterious alien virus. Built from the ground up, it will use a first-person view, as opposed to the over the shoulder one used in the original, and is scheduled to hit the store shelves in fall.

“We could not be more excited to extend Dead Space into an experience exclusive to the Wii. Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction,” said Glen Schofield, VP and general manager of EA Redwood Shores studio. “As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect.”

Dead Space was one of last year's most original games that arrived from EA, and really took game development to a whole new level as it was also coupled with the release of a comic book and an animated movie, all acting as prequels to the story of the game. Hopefully this next title will fit right into the story and Wii owners will get a great horror experience.
