Quite a few songs

The music game genre is definitely one of the most successful new types of entertainment out there. It has already surpassed the very popular sports genre and is set to become even more massive, as a lot of games are launched on this fresh market segment. From Lips to Wii Music, quite a few titles will certainly keep people entertained this holiday season.

But none of them can be compared to the two most innovative titles for this genre, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. While the first paved the way for the mainstream success of this kind of games, Rock Band introduced instruments and a new type of delivery system for the DLC (Downloadable Content) packs that the developer, Harmonix, had in store.

This system was based on a weekly update to the online stores of the game, and promised to keep players stocked with the new songs from the music scene. We've seen some people from the development team talk about this DLC system, and that it was the company's goal to offer more diverse songs from bands that aren't very well known. This strategy has paid off, as the company has just announced the content it would offer this week.

Among the bands making an appearance on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network world wide will be The Killers, Yngwie Malmsteen or Soundgarden, which will be sure to entertain rockers in the following holiday season, starting with Thanksgiving (tomorrow). As usual, these tracks will be available for 1.99 dollars or 160 MS Points, if you want to buy them individually, or 5.49 dollars or 440 MS Points in case you want to buy three songs from the same band.

Here's the complete track list of this new DLC pack, as found on 1up:

“Mr. Brightside” by the Killers  “Smile Like You Mean It” by the Killers  “Spaceman” by the Killers  “Caprici Di Diablo” by Yngwie Malmsteen  “Damnation Game” by Yngwie Malmsteen  “Red Devil” by Yngwie Malmsteen  “Jesus Christ Pose” by Soundgarden  “Pretty Noose” by Soundgarden  “Laid To Rest” by Lamb of God.

All in all, this is a very diverse pack, one that will surely make a lot of Rock Band players very happy and take Harmonix one step closer to its goal of 500 songs by the end of the year. Let's just hope it will continue to offer the same great experience to its users.
