The Close Quarters downloadable content pack for Battlefield 3 will not include the standard Rush and Conquest modes that the series has become known for because the development team felt that they were not suited to the smaller spaces and quicker pace of the experience.

Niklas Fegraeus, who is the lead designer working on the Close Quarters DLC pack at DICE, told MP1st that, ““We also had to tackle the challenges of bringing our tried and tested game modes to the smaller scale. We understood quickly that Rush, being a large and progressive mode that takes you on a journey from M-COM to M-COM, simply wouldn’t fit physically.

“So instead, we turned our attention to Conquest. How could we tailor this essential Battlefield game mode to fit our new type of environment?”

Gamers who get Close Quarters will be able to play an entirely new mode called Conquest Domination, which is designed to place more of an emphasis on team communication and on more tactical options for each player.

Gamers will have to synchronize their actions and make split second decisions when it comes to defending their flag and the developer at DICE believes that even the best teams will be tested by the Close Quarters changes.

The developer admitted that the new DLC might not be well suited for those who love long-range battles and vehicles, but added, “For those of you who feel that a close combat experience is not what you are looking for, keep your eyes on the Armored Kill expansion we have in the making. I can confidently say you’ll get your epic scale vehicle fix with that expansion pack!”

DICE recently said that it planned to deliver content for Battlefield 3 all through 2012, with three DLC packs already confirmed.

Close Quarters will be launched during June on all platforms.
