A brand new Alan Wake game is set to appear later this year, as Remedy Entertainment, the developer of the first title, confirmed that a new experience is set to arrive, but said that it's not a full-pledged sequel.

Alan Wake was an extremely ambitious project, but, because it spent quite a lot of time in development and cost both Remedy Entertainment, its developer, and Microsoft, its publisher, a lot of money, wasn't that big of a success.

Now, it seems that Remedy is keen on getting a new Alan Wake title out there, as the company's head of franchise development, Oskari Häkkinen, confirmed to Joystiq a rumor that said Alan Wake 2 was in development at the Finnish studio.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually SHOW YOU," he said.

Alan Wake 2 was spotted on a developer resume earlier this week, prompting fans of the first game to start speculating on when the actual sequel might appear.

Now, it seems that while the new Alan Wake experience won't be a full-pledged sequel or downloadable content for the first game, it's still going to be an interesting release.

"We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board," Häkkinen added.

More details about the new Alan Wake title, including release dates, platforms or pricing are set to be revealed at a later time, but the developer says that it might appear in Fall 2011.
