Less of the villain, more of Cpt. Kirk and his obstinate ways

A new trailer for “Star Trek Into Darkness” has been released online and, while it has too little of Benedict Cumberbatch in it for my taste, it should be enough to get even non-fans excited about the upcoming film.

The sequel to the 2009 “Star Trek,” “Into Darkness” is directed by J.J. Abrams and is already getting reviews as the most epic and visually stunning release of the year.

Judging by the action-packed preview above, it’s no wonder why critics were so impressed by the 30 minutes of relatively raw footage screened in London last week.

Unlike the other teasers and trailers released so far, this one brings the focus back on Captain Kirk and his team, and how he will ultimately put them in danger because he believes “rules don’t apply to [him] because [he doesn’t] like them.”

“Star Trek Into Darkness” drops on May 17.
