Wireless connectivity has certainly represented a huge step forward for the computer industry, but many users still felt the need for a standard that would allow them to share their music and videos among all their devices without going through lengthy and complicated setups so DLNA was born, Netgear being the latest company to announce DLNA certified devices.

Coming to the already available N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router as well as the ReadyNAS Ultra family of network attached storage systems, this will enable users to easily share video, music and photos with other DLNA certified devices such as home theater systems, gaming consoles, Internet enabled TVs, Blu-Ray players and photo frames.

Furthermore, ReadyNAS solutions will be able to stream content across the Internet to any remote location, so you can also share your multimedia content with a fried or a family member that can't come to your house.

"We are strong supporters of DLNA because it opens up new experiences and gives customers peace of mind in knowing all their DLNA Certified products will easily work together," said David Henry, senior director of product marketing, Home Products, at Netgear.

"As more and more types of devices are added to home and business networks, we will continue to grow the number of DLNA Certified Netgear products."

In order to check if a device is DLNA certified of not, customers can look for the DLNA logo on home networking and electronics products, Netgear stating there are more than 8,500 certified devices out there.

Both of these devices are available for purchase right now, the Netgear N600 coming at about $149.44 while the ReadyNAS Ultra series starts at $599.99.

Unfortunately, Netgear did not state if customers that have already bought these will get a firmware update to make their devices compatible with other DLNA certified gadgets, although I certainly hope this to be the case.
