By now each and everyone of us probably has a huge digital content collection scattered on all sort of devices such as mobile phones, laptops, eReaders and such, so buying a media server and putting them all together to be streamed on any device of your choosing makes a lot of sense, Netgear releasing four new additions to its ReadyNAS Ultra family of home media servers for this exact same purpose.

In order to do so, Netgear had to develop a whole new media server series, dubbed ReadyNAS Ultra Plus, the company promising a 30% performance increase over the previous Ultra line.

This new series is available in three different configurations, coming in as a diskless media NAS with either 2, 4 or 6 hard disk bays, Netgear adding a pretty extensive list of media content delivery features as ReadyNAS Ultra Plus drives offer TiVo compatibility and Orb transcoding support.

DLNA certification is also on the feature list together with an optional remote file access app for iPhone that is available for $2.99 USD on Apple’s App Store.

The forth member to the already extensive ReadyNAS Ultra family is the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 unit that comes with 2 drive bays as a diskless offering or packed together with one or two 2TB HDDs.

“The ReadyNAS Ultra family brings cutting-edge partnerships and applications to the home media server market. The new Ultra Plus series is now the most powerful home storage available,” said Tiffany Pham, Product Line Manager for Prosumer Storage at Netgear.

“Now users can do more with their digital media collections than ever before.”

All of these new media server models will be available starting late November, the Ultra 2 Plus series ranging in price from $449.99 to $999.99 while the Ultra 2 unit comes in between $399.99 and $699.99, depending on the number of pre-installed drives.
