Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Criterion have announced that more than 2 million gamers chose to download the demo version of the new Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and then race through the streets of Seacrest County, making this demo the most downloaded in the history of the franchise and pointing to good sales when the full game launches.

The new Criterion made Need for Speed is set to be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii and the PC on November 16 in North America and on the 18th on the European market.

Electronic Arts also says that more than 700,000 posts have been thrown at the Speed Wall while on the Autolog social space more than 5 million recommendations were exchanged.

54 million miles of road were covered by the players who enjoyed the two events offered in the demo version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, the 2010 edition, while cops managed to take down more than 20 million offending speedsters.

Electronic Arts is also keen to emphasize the fact that PlayStation: The Official Magazine gave the new hot Pursuit game a perfect score with other reviewers also saying that it offers a adrenalin rich and over the top driving experience.

The Need for Speed series has been seeing less than enthusiast receptions for a few years and publisher Electronic Arts brought in Criterion, the developer studio best known for creating the Burnout series, in order to bring the series back to its roots.

The game will allow gamers to play both as law breaking racers and as cops, using some of the fastest cars in the world to compete in a variety of events, including classic takedown gameplay.

The launch of Need for Speed will also benefit from the delays which have affected potential rival Gran Turismo 5.
