It may not have cost as much as other diamond rings that celebrities flash on their engagement finger, but Natalie Portman’s $35,000 diamond piece is not only eco-friendly but also conflict-free.

The Oscar-nominated actress is known for being a convinced vegan, so it was only to be expected for her to have an engagement ring that didn’t come from a conflict zone. Plus, it’s also made from recycled materials.

It was Natalie’s fiancé, Benjamin Millepied himself who helped design the sparkler, PopEater reports citing InStyle. He and a former ballet dancer turned jewelry designer Jamie Wolf toiled for weeks to come up with the ring.

In the end, of course, they were thrilled with the result: the ring is a superb combination of old and new, made only of eco-friendly materials, chosen to be suitable to Natalie’s personality.

“Portman’s ring was carefully designed by dancer-model fiancé Benjamin Millepied to include recycled platinum, an antique center stone and accenting pavé diamonds taken from a conflict-free mine,” PopEater writes.

“Ben was exceptionally thoughtful and dedicated and patient to make sure we had everything right. We wanted everything about the ring to speak to things that are important to Natalie,” designer Wolf says of Millepied’s involvement in the creative process.

There was also a lot of stress placed on the materials used – and not only on how they combined to create the sparkler.

“Every element of the ring, from the recycled metals to the antique center stone, reflects Portman’s preference for eco-friendly choices. The pavé stones’ conflict-free certification means no one was hurt or treated unfairly in their mining,” PopEater notes.

Portman was understandably thrilled when she learned all this, because it made the ring all the more special knowing Ben had worked on it and that it was so eco-friendly.

The actress is now pregnant with her first child, an announcement she made when she also told the world she was getting married. A wedding date has not been set yet.
