Back in February, NVIDIA started rolling out the Android KitKat 4.4.2 update for its Tegra Note 7 tablet. Among the first versions to receive it was the EVGA model, but owners of the Advent Vega and Gigabyte variations soon reported they were being updated to the new build too.

And last week we reported that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has also managed to make its way on the HP Slate 7 Extreme model, four months later after NVIDIA started introducing the new update for the first time.

Now, following in the footsteps of HTC, NVIDIA has become the second OEM to promise the new Android L upgrade for one of its products and you've guessed it, they have selected the Tegra Note 7 to be its beneficiary (as seen on Fudzilla).

The original Tegra Note 7 relies on the capabilities of a Tegra 4 processor, which features a quad-core Cortex A-15 CPU and GeForce ULV graphics with 72 unified shader cores. The slate is fitted with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

With the Android L upgrade, the appeal of this tablet, which got released last year might, be increased significantly.

Furthermore, a similar update for the company’s NVIDIA Shield might also be in the pipeline, since the product is also powered by a Tegra 4 chipset, but we’re not given any official confirmation, so this part remains in the speculation department.

NVIDIA doesn't offer any time-frame for when the update will arrive, but we can speculate this will happen as soon as Google makes things official.

Anyway, this announcement makes us think of the mysterious HTC tablet codenamed Volantis, which is apparently also running on Tegra K1 64-bit SoC (codename Dever).

According to sources, this unannounced tablet will also be getting the Android L treatment, which makes sense.

While we wait for Android L to make a stop on NVIDIA’s first-gen tab, we can take the opportunity to remind you about the enigmatic Shield Tablet, which surfaced in the rumor mill a while back.

The slate should bring about a bumped FHD screen resolution and basically boast similar specs as the Xiaomi MiPad tablet.

Considering the Tegra Note 7’s main negative points consisted of the low 1280 x 720 res and 1GB of RAM, but the Shield Tablet will bring things to the next level.

Sadly, we have no new information about the upcoming tablet to share with you, for the time being, so we’ll have to wait and see until NVIDIA makes a move.
