The folks over at NFS-Planet have got hold of the first screenshots of Need For Speed: Undercover for iPhone and iPod touch. EA's popular franchise is going to see a release on all major platforms, as usual, and this time around, the iPhone is one of the most important targets.

Needless to point out, EA's huge interest in the iPhone is obvious, with releases like Spore having made their way onto the device as soon as the App Store was up and running. Apple's latest keynote presentations also feature the latest NFS title in action. Now, EA is close to releasing one of the best-looking iPhone games to date.

According to the aforementioned source, December 2008 will have owners of an iPhone or iPod touch racing undercover, steering, accelerating and breaking with the accelerometer, or charging with the touchscreen controls. The site says that the first screenshots of the iPhone version of the game look “quite promising.” Some would say they're downright stunning, considering that Undercover also promises some serious gameplay features.

Speaking of which, the iPhone version of NFS: Undercover boasts a total of 30 licensed cars, including the Porsche Cayman S, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ford Mustang and Lotus Elise, according to the source. Moreover, players will be able to pimp out and tune up their rides, with options like suspension, tires and Body Paint being available in the game. To round up an already impressive set of features, EA is pushing the limit of iPhone racing with 8 race modes, including Highway Battle, Sprint and Cop Takeout.

However, gameplay is a topic anyone can take a guess at. Despite this fact, the overall aspect is unquestionably awesome! Judging by these good looking screens, EA has put considerable effort into porting its latest NFS installment to Apple's iPhone. Remember, the game will see its App Store release in December. Hopefully, EA will not include anything in the game that will come into conflict with Apple's own apps, if you know what we mean.
