14 DAY TRIAL // With so many companies launching things today, and set to speak out over the next several days, NEC did not let itself fall behind, actually making an announcement of its own.
NEC does not really have much of a stake in the consumer IT electronics market.
The enterprise and industrial segments, however, definitely make extensive use of its various products, especially displays.
Those who want to get an idea of what NEC is involved in can check out a certain Medical Diagnostic Display and the V Series of projectors, though this is just a scratch on the surface of NEC's activities.
What the company most recently did was deliver a new addition to the MultiSync EX line of liquid crystal displays.
Named MultiSync EX201W, it has a diagonal of 20 inches, the 16:9 aspect ratio, a resolution of 1,600 x 900 pixels and a DCR (dynamic contrast ratio) of 25,000:1.
It is of the commercial variety and comes with a human and ambient light sensor, plus ECO Mode and Dynamic Video Mode.
What's more, it has a power consumption of 21W, earning it Energy Star 5.1 and TCO 5.2 compliance. EPEAT Gold compliance is also an asset.
As for connectivity, there are DisplayPort and DVI-I inputs, plus an USB port (for webcams and flash drives).
“The success of the MultiSync EX Series has been phenomenal, and we’re excited to introduce a new size category into this series with the 20-inch, widescreen MultiSync EX201W,” said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions.
“Most customers are finding the minimalist design and LED-backlight power efficiency to be beneficial. Smart technologies like the human sensor and ambient light sensor automatically detect human absence and ambient light intensity and brightness to save a significant amount of power for corporations with large rollouts.”
Priced at $229, the MultiSync EX201W has an optional portable stand kit and carrying bag. Sales will start this month, with a 3-year limited warranty.
