NEC may not often try its hand at the consumer market, but it does touch on its from time to time, even if it does still keep professionals in its view, like it did for the MultiSync P241W.

Those who known of NEC probably are aware of its status as worldwide supplier of products, especially displays, for the enterprise market.

Recently, for example, it created the EX201W, from the MultiSync EX Display Line of professional monitors.

Now, the same company has presented a new desktop monitor, one that consumers might find appealing, though it is still intended mostly for work.

This is because it is in such a way built, and advertised, that it should show its mettle best in graphics and photography applications.

The IPS display goes by the name of MultiSync P241W and, as its name implies, is a widescreen panel with a diagonal of 24 inches.

The native resolution is of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels (aspect ratio is 16:10), the response time of 8 ms and the brightness of 360 cd/m2. Also, the panel covers 96.7% of the sRGB color gamut, as well as 71.4% of NTSC.

Picture-in-Picture capabilities are present, as is picture-by-picture, ICC profile emulation, an ambient light sensor, an ECO Mode and touch support.

Finally, one version of the product (P241W-BK-SV) has the SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution (automated monitor matching and calibration).

“The new MultiSync P Series combines reliable, accurate screen performance with all the cutting-edge technology included in the MultiSync PA Series at a budget-friendly price,” said Art Marshall, Product Manager for Professional and Medical Displays at NEC Display Solutions.

“One of the more unique features of the P241W is the ability to utilize two computers simultaneously through DisplaySync Pro and the integrated USB hub, which functions as a KVM device. This capability is invaluable to graphics professionals, and we’re excited to introduce this feature into the MultiSync P Series.”

NEC should start to ship the monitor with a 4-year limited warranty starting this month, for this price of $1,249, or $749 without the SpectraViewII software an sensor.
