EA Sports, a simulation-oriented division of publisher Electronic Arts, has announced that its college-powered NCAA Football 12 has managed to move no less than 700,000 copies on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft during the first two weeks it was available at retail.

This is the biggest first two weeks that the football simulation franchise has ever seen and represents an increase of 17 percent over the same period of last year.

Peter Moore, who is the president of EA Sports, has stated, “We’re extremely pleased by the overwhelmingly positive response to NCAA Football 12 by both critics and college football fans alike.”

He added, “The team at Tiburon has created the ultimate college football experience which is evident at retail where the game is flying off the shelves.”

EA Sports also says that more than 870,000 online games have been played during the first two weeks on NCAA Football 12, which is the equivalent of more than 600 regular seasons played in the real world.

50,000 Online Dynasties have been created, with more than 100,000 player custom made teams taking part as players aim to create their own football based narratives that they can enjoy in the long term.

The TeamBuilder site, which went live before the game launched and allows anyone to create a new school and its team, has been used more than one million times.

NCAA Football 12 was launched on July 12 and will likely continue to sell well until the late August launch of Madden NFL 12.

The game is traditionally seen as a testing platform for a number of technologies that can be implemented in Madden and the developers at EA Tiburon have claimed that this year's version of the game is the closest one to the real college game.

The fact that the NFL and players have a new deal and the regular season can go ahead will likely give a sales boost to Madden NFL 12 when it launches.
