First, Wonder Woman got a new outfit to fight crime, one that really didn’t sit well with fans. Then, she was on her way to return to TV, with NBC ordering a pilot for a new David E. Kelly series. The network has dropped the project.

Entertainment Weekly is the first to break the news that the “Wonder Woman” series will no longer be happening (at least, not on NBC), though the network is still to confirm it.

Apparently, audiences were not really that thrilled about the new and improved story of the legendary superheroine, so the network chose not to risk it all out there and has turned down the pilot.

Presumably, part of the reason why the people at home didn’t like what they saw in the pilot is the new suit, which simply doesn’t ring that much of a bell with them when they think Wonder Woman.

“NBC isn’t saying for now but scuttlebutt reveals the pilot earned mixed reviews at test screenings. And then there was all the online blow back about the costume – which seemed to de-emphasize the patriotism and play up the comic’s Greek mythology,” EW writes.

“Ultimately, the wardrobe department went back to the drawing board but that didn’t seem to save the project,” the e-zine further notes.

Fans will probably not shed that many tears about news that the series isn’t happening, especially since they weren’t that keen on the idea in the first place.

Not the same can be said about the leading actress, though.

“Big bummer for Adrianne Palicki – a budding star from Friday Night Lights who deserved a leading role on the fall lineup. Maybe she can fill the void left by Minka Kelly on Parenthood and be the hot gal who keeps messing with Crosby’s mind,” EW writes.

There’s also the chance that Warner Bros. TV will shop the pilot around town in the hope that some other network will like it and gamble with it.

Then again, EW stresses, which network would pick up a pilot that NBC has already turned down for such solid reasons.
