Electronic Arts is set to deploy the NBA Jam: On Fire Edition onto the PlayStation 3 console today, and on the Xbox 360 platform tomorrow, with revised gameplay, lots of new content, and special characters.

Seeing as how it's left once again without a proper NBA basketball simulator, after the canceled NBA Elite 11 from last year, EA is taking advantage of its NBA Jam series, which became famous in arcades during the 1990s, and appeared last year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

Now, a new version of the game, called the NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, is out this week as a downloadable title, for just $14.99 (around 14 Euros) or 1200 MS Points, for the PS3 and Xbox 360, respectively.

In exchange for your hard earned cash or points, you'll get a "co-operative campaign against all 30 NBA teams (and some special teams too!); a competitive online mode that will give everyone a chance to be the best, every week; and a deep and persistent career system that unlocks the most teams, legends, and other swag than has ever appeared in an NBA Jam game ever before," according to EA.

Besides the overhauled gameplay modes, the company also highlights that it's made "over 1000 gameplay tweaks and additions to NBA Jam since you’ve last seen it," most of them pertaining to the animations, shot timing or the re-introduction of the Tag Mode, coming back from the arcade era, where players can control both characters and execute various tricks, thus allowing his team to go on Team Fire mode and do all sorts of even more outlandish moves.

A special trailer for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition has been revealed on the PlayStation blog, so check it out below before the game's release later today, on PS3, and tomorrow, October 5, on the Xbox 360.
