Fido will soon launch two new Motorola phones, the Z6W and U9 models, both coming to enlarge the already existing line-up of Moto handsets offered by the Canadian carrier.

Although they're both made by Motorola, the new handsets that Fido's users will be able top buy are quite different, both in design and features. First of all, the Z6W is a slider with firm edges, while the U9 is a clamshell with a round and delicate appearance.

Announced in February, Motorola Z6W follows the line of the earlier Z6 and Z6c models, but it pushes things a little further when it comes to features. The list of specs offered by the new Z6W includes: a 2 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 256K colors, Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera with flash and video recording, Music player (MP3, AAC and AAC+ supported), Opera 8.5 browser, email, Instant Messaging, organizer, voice dial, handsfree, miniUSB, 64MB of internal memory and microSD card support. The handset weighs 110 grams, measures 105 x 45 x 17.3 millimeters (when closed) and packs a 950 mAh battery that should, theoretically, be enough for up to 7 hours of talk-time and up to 400 hours of stands-by time.

Motorola U9 is created for those who want to have a fashionable (but not too expensive) phone. We saw the phone live, back in March, during CeBIT 2008, and we can confirm that it's a fancy little clamshell and it will probably attract more girls/women than men. Its features include a 2 inch internal display with 256K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, an external 128 x 160 OLED screen, touch-sensitive music-dedicated keys, Windows Media Player 11, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, microSD card support, USB 2.0 and so on.

We can't say yet when the new Moto phones will be available from Fido, but Mobile in Canada says a June release is expected. And since we're now in June, the Z6W and U9 should soon hit the market.
