Mobile phone carrier Cellular South has just announced that a new Android-based device is now available for purchase on its airwaves, namely the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi tablet PC.

The wireless service provider has announced that the tablet PC is available on its airwaves bundles with a free Novatel MiFi 2200 hotspot upon the signing of a contract agreement, or as a Wi-Fi only unit, with a price tag of $599.99 attached to it.

“The award-winning MOTOROLA XOOM, which was selected as “Best of Show” at CES - the world’s largest consumer electronics show - earlier this year, is the first device operating on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, designed especially for tablets,” the wireless carrier explains.

“In addition to widgets, true multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization, the tablet also features the latest Google Mobile services, including Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interaction and delivers access to over 3 million Google eBooks and thousands of apps on Android Market.”

The new tablet PC comes to the market with a 1GHz dual-core processor inside, complemented by 1 GB of RAM, all hidden beneath a 10.1-inch widescreen HD touchscreen display.

Cellular South customers would enjoy a new type of connectivity with the device, through pairing it with a Novatel MiFi hotspot, thus being able to connect to the carrier's mobile broadband network.

When launched, the Motorola XOOM was said to be the most advanced Android tablet PC on the market, courtesy of the high-performance hardware specs it packs inside, and of the impressive multimedia capabilities it features.

Among others, the XOOM comes with HDMI output, support for the Adobe Flash Player 10.2, which is available for download via the Android Market, and fast Internet connectivity, complemented by a rich experience when it comes to surfing the web.

In addition to its 1280 x 800 display, Motorola XOOM also includes a 5MP camera on the back, with video recording capabilities, as well as a front-facing 2 MP camera for video calling.

“MOTOROLA XOOM is a dynamic addition to Cellular South’s growing suite of Android devices and builds on our promise to deliver the industry’s best Android experience,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for Cellular South.

“When paired with our Novatel MiFi hotspot, this tablet will give our customers unparalleled access to their personal content and work files over our industry-leading mobile broadband data network.”
