Mobile phone maker Verizon has just announced a new software update for the Motorola XOOM tablet PC on its airwaves, which comes as version HMJ07B and brings along a wide range of improvements, enhancements and fixes.

According to reports, the new software should arrive on devices starting today, though no specific info on how long the entire process might take emerged until now.

Verizon has already posted info on what the update brings on devices, and we can say that one feature that many might have hoped to be included with it was not added there, namely LTE connectivity.

Not to mention that the tablet PC does not offer support for microSD cards as of yet, and that the update does not include a fix for this either.

Even so, the new update does have a lot of enhancements included into the mix, as its release notes show:

- Access and stay connected to Wi-Fi networks with added Proxy support. - SSL data transfer with websites is now supported. - WPA Pre-Shared Key pass-phrases are now supported when using the device as a Mobile Hotspot. - Supports Google Widevine DRM and HDCP. - POP3 HTML emails will display in their entirety. - Bluetooth is now supported in Google Talk. - Encrypted passwords can be entered during power up. - Calendar events will remain up to date after an installed software update. - Application storage errors will not appear unless the device has reached maximum storage capacity. - Safely dock the MOTOROLA XOOM into the docking adapter without interruption. - Ability to add and use a Bluetooth mouse. - A shortcut key for the Bluetooth keyboard has been added. - View and import pictures from digital cameras with Picture Transfer Protocol. - When using the device in accessibility mode, menus will no longer prompt with sounds.

The tablet PC was launched a few months ago on Verizon's airwaves with 3G radios on board, and with the promise of 4G LTE coming to it via a software update.

However, Verizon and Motorola did not enable the faster connectivity options on XOOM as of yet, and it might still take some time before they do so.

Those who would like to learn more on the new software update should head over to Verizon's support website here for the full release notes and for installation instructions.
