Microvision has closed a deal with Motorola in order to make it possible to put projectors in handsets from now on. They will use an ultra-miniature laser-based display engine, called PicoP in order to make this possible.

Motorola is thinking of new things to pack in their mobile phones nowadays and there are still some open options. Incredibly enough, they have chosen to place mini projectors in the mobile phones that they develop. A TV out must have been unsatisfying and not as impressive. Moreover, the concept had already been used for a long time before.

Mobile phones capable of projections are something that nobody has given any serious thought until now. Still, Motorola pictures some situations when this possibility would prove to be highly useful. It addresses mostly those business people who take their work everywhere, with the help of mobile phones. Why do you have to transfer data from handset to PC for projection and not use the mobile device itself for it and save yourself from all the fuss?

"We believe that our unique display technology, combined with Motorola's focus on delivering cool experiences, would allow mobile users to enhance their viewing of information and entertainment", said Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. Moreover, "With its slim form factor and low power requirements, Microvision's PicoP projector is optimized for the mobile environment".

The two companies hope to make it possible to project content from a mobile phone onto a wall, object or even a curved surface. It will provide considerably easier solutions for making presentations, showing websites, images and videos to other people.

The mobile projection technology is currently in the prototype state and will be made real only for demonstration purposes at this time. For this, a handset will use Microvision's new, WVGA (854 by 480 color pixels) wide-angle projector.
