Telecommunications solutions provider Motorola announced recently that its Home & Networks Mobility business was committed to support both WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE), the two 4G technologies that are already being deployed / tested around the world. According to the company, there are distinct markets for the two technologies, and WiMAX and LTE are expected to co-exist as carriers are working on meeting the increasing demand for data connectivity.

“Wireless broadband is the utility of the 21st century, and Motorola has the solutions in both WiMAX and LTE that will meet consumer demand and operator requirements for network efficiency,” said Bruce Brda, senior vice president and general manager, Wireless Networks, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “Motorola’s legacy of expertise in wireless broadband, IP networking, video and services, coupled with our portfolio of proven solutions, can help operators go to market quickly to maximize their competitive advantage as they deploy new networks or evolve their existing networks to 4G.”

Motorola also stated that it managed to make advancements in both WiMAX and LTE areas during the ongoing year, and that it expected to build momentum in 2010. The company is committed to WiMAX 802.16m in its attempt to expand the current customer base, as it strives to maintain its leadership in the WiMAX area. At the same time, the company also noted that it would continue to participate “in numerous standards bodies as they refine specifications for various technologies that will enable faster broadband access.”

According to Motorola, its expertise in the WiMAX area helped it to deliver a complete LTE solution, which comes to the market with support for both FDD and TD-LTE. “With our experience from WiMAX we can get our LTE customers to market faster and with less risk,” Brda said. “Our deployment, management and optimization of many large-scale commercial WiMAX networks around the world gives us operations-level experience which our research and development teams use to make better and more stable LTE solutions.”
