With the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 out of the way, one of the most anticipated upcoming devices of this year seems to be the Motorola Moto X (2015).

The new flagship has been showing up online consistently in the past few weeks, so we’ve been able to tell you that we’re going to see two versions of the phone make a debut: a 5.7-inch Verizon-bound model and a 5.2-inch international version. And today, we bring you more info related to the upcoming premium smartphone.

The folks at G for Games have managed to dig out some images purportedly showcasing the insides of the next-gen Moto X, which subsequently reveal a piece of interesting information.

What you’re seeing in the gallery below is the alleged chassis of the new Moto X, and while some components are missing, it appears there’s a square cut-out positioned where a fingerprint sensor might be embedded.

The next Moto X might have a fingerprint-based authentication system

Motorola has had plans of adding a fingerprint sensor to one of its smartphones ever since last year when the Nexus 6 was launched.

As Motorola’s CEO Dennis Woodside himself confessed, the dimple sitting on the back of the phablet was supposed to be more than that. But what happened was that Apple moved faster and acquired the best fingerprint scanner supplier available on the market, called Authentec, so Motorola was left to make-do with the second best supplier on the market, which didn’t prove to rise up to the level of Authentec.

It now seems very likely that Motorola has managed to solve the problem and is ready to bundle a fingerprint sensor inside its next-gen flagship phone. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking, and as always, you should be taking this info with a grain of salt.

As we mentioned above, the Moto X (2015) should arrive in two flavors, one with a 5.2-inch QHD display and one with a 5.7-inch QHD panel. The smaller version aimed at the international market is expected to make it out with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, working hand in hand with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.

The phone should also boast a 16MP main photo snapper and a 5MP selfie shooter. Last but not least, we’re told the phone will be sustained by a 3,280 mAh battery and will run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
