Motorola expects the same success as its predecessor

Almost a year after the first release, Motorola has launched a new version of the RAZR slider phone, codename Z. The handset, developed and launched in Korea, presents itself as an ultra-thin phone (14.8 mm), with a 2.2 inch display, a 1.3 megapixel camera and an MP3 player.

Motorola expects a lot from this handset, although some are not so convinced that the success of the RAZR will equal that of its predecessor. This comes from the fact that slim sliders are not a novelty anymore. The initial RAZR took advantage of its novelty status as the first wafer-thin handset. Many producers rushed to create their own copies and now, ironically, Motorola's handset is somewhat larger than its competitors on the ultra-thin phone market. A Seoul analyst comments: "My first impression was that the Z is fit for foreigners' big hands, not for Korea's smaller ones. It remains to be seen whether tech-savvy Koreans will snap up the new phone as they did for the RAZR''.

The handset will be available through SK Telecom at a price between USD$516 and USD$619.
