Today, Mobile phone maker Motorola and wireless carrier Verizon Wireless have announced the upcoming availability of a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system, namely the Motorola DROID PRO.

The new handset is expected to prove a powerful, faster solution that was designed to fit the needs of both business and end users.

According to Motorola and Verizon, the new smartphone was optimized for business use, while offering global connectivity, so that its owners can benefit from wireless voice services in a number of more than 220 countries, while enjoying data coverage over 200 countries.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with the productivity tools that businesses require, such as corporate connectivity and security, full push corporate e-mail, unified calendar or pre-loaded Quickoffice Mobile Suite.

Not to mention that the device is powered by a powerful 1 GHz processor, complemented by 2 GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for more storage space.

All of these are packed inside a device that boasts a candybar form factor and a portrait QWERTY keyboard that was “designed for speed and convenience.”

Some of the main features of the new device incldue:

- Support for both Exchange e-mail and Gmail for business - Corporate directory look-up, unified calendar for Enterprise and sync with Google Calendar - PC-like browsing with Adobe Flash Player 10.1 on a full, multi-touch, 3.1-inch brilliant display built on Android 2.2 - View, edit and share documents, including Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and Word documents - Built-in security features, including AuthenTec IPSec multi-headed VPN integration, remote wipe of device and SD card, and complex password support. Device and SD card encryption will be available in early 2011 - My Verizon and Backup Assistant support – Allows customers to manage their wireless accounts or their contacts from their phones

At the same time, we should note that the new phone sports 3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities, as well as Wi-Fi-enabled DNLA connectivity, and 3G diversity antennae for enhanced data speeds.

The phone's specs list also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, dual LED flash and DVD-quality video recording capabilities.

Users would be able to enjoy on DROID PRO live widgets for streaming e-mail messages to the home screen, messages that can be filtered to separate their work and home e-mail.

The new Motorola DROID PRO should be put on sale at the US wireless carrier in the coming weeks, via Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online on the carrier's website. No info on pricing emerged for the time being.
