Motorola unveiled the latest member of the DEFY family, the DEFY MINI, about four months ago. Initially slated for a February release in the UK, the smartphone hit shelves this weekend.

Most leading retailers across the country are offering the Motorola DEFY MINI for around £160 ($260 or €195) off-contract.

As the name suggests, this is the smallest smartphone in the DEFY series. It measures 109 x 58.5 x 12.6 mm and weighs only 107g (battery included).

Even so, the smartphone still packs a pretty decent 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

Motorola DEFY MINI is a rugged Android smartphone, so expect this one to be dust and water resistant: “Whether you work or play in environments that normal phones cannot stand or whether you are a bit clumsy and you want something that isn’t going to break every 5 minutes then the DEFY MINI might just be the answer.”

The phone is powered by Google’s Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system and packs a low-performance 600 MHz single core processor.

On the back, the DEFY MINI sports an average 3-megapixel camera with LED flash, while on the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Given the fact that this is a budget-friendly smartphone, Motorola DEFY MINI only embeds 512 MB of ROM and 512 MB RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers both HSDPA and HSUPA support, along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microUSB and built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS.

The DEFY MINI drains energy from a 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide users with up to 500 hours of standby time or up to 10 hours of talk time, but the continuous usage time should be much shorter.
