Canadian mobile phone users have now yet another Android-based device available for purchase in the country, the Motorola Backflip. Put on sale on the airwaves of Telus, the Backflip brings a rather unique form factor to the mix, with a full QWERTY keyboard that flips backwards, coupled with a BACKTRACK navigation panel. The device also includes Motorola’s MOTOBLUR solution, thrown over Google's Android operating system.

“MOTOBLUR is Motorola’s Android-powered content delivery service created to make phones more personal and socially smart. MOTOBLUR syncs contacts, posts, messages, photos and much more - from sources such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Gmail, work and personal email - and automatically delivers them to the home screen. MOTOBLUR delivers these updates in easy-to-view streams, so there is no need to switch between different mobile applications to keep up with the latest content,” Telus notes on its website.

Among the main features that are available for Canadians on the Motorola Backflip, we can count the streaming of posts, tweets and feeds from multiple social networks straight to the homescreen, courtesy of MOTOBLUR; the reverse-hinged form factor; the BACKTRACK panel, which enables easy navigation without touching the screen; along with access to a wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market. The phone also includes support for a series of services from the wireless carrier.

The specifications list of Motorola Blackflip includes a 3.1-inch touchscreen display that boasts an HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) resolution, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash, 512MB of internal memory, coupled with a memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Music player, Speakerphone, IM, email and SMS capabilities, web browsing and more. The phone measures 53 x 108 x 15.3 mm and weighs in at 133 grams, while including a battery that can deliver up to 6 hours of talk time or up to 13.5 days of standby time.

Telus' customers can purchase the Motorola Backflip for $249.99 upon the signing of a three-year agreement with the carrier. The handset is available with two-year agreements too, priced at $299.99, with one-year contracts for $349.99, as well as free of contract, priced at $399.99.
