On Thursday, mobile phone maker Motorola announced the launch of its Android-based Motorola Backflip handset on the German market. The device has been already released on other markets around the world, including the United States, China or Italy, and should land in Germany in April, via Mobilcom and online on Amazon.de.

According to the handset vendor, the Motorola Backflip will become available for purchase unlocked in Germany, featuring a price tag of €499 (around $670), including VAT. The unique form factor the new mobile phone sports is expected to appeal to users, especially since it is coupled with the BACKTRACK touch pad and with the company's MOTOBLUR user experience.

In case there are some yet unfamiliar with the specifications list Motorola Blackflip comes around with, we should mention Google's Android 1.5 operating system, on top of which Motorola has thrown its own mobile social networking service, MOTOBLUR, a 3.1-inch touchscreen display that boasts a HVGA resolution, and that reverse-flipping QWERTY keyboard that makes it unique.

Additional specs include a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash and auto focus (with the possibility to easily upload photos on social networking sites), a 3.5mm headset jack, various connectivity options, including HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a built-in GPS receiver, HTML browser, and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space. Multimedia features, access to social media sites, and support for messaging features (text, IM, email) complete the capabilities list for the handset.

The mobile phone maker revealed that the Motorola Backflip would come with a series of pre-installed Google applications like Gmail, Google Maps, Google Talk and YouTube, and with support for various services from the Internet giant. Access to the Android Market is also included in the package so that users can download a wide range of apps and widgets on their handsets in order to personalize their mobile experience.
