A new Motorola handset was just announced for the South African market, namely the Motorola ATRIX, a dual-core smartphone set to hit a wide range of wireless carriers in the country before the end of this month.

The smartphone was announced as being on its way to Vodacom, Cell C, 8ta and MTN in August 2011. It will sport a recommended price of R5799.

The new Motorola ATRIX is a powerful handset, capable of offering great performance capabilities both while on the go, as well as at home, where users can pair it with the various accessories that Motorola made available for it.

Among these, we can count the Lapdock or HD Multimedia Dock, meant to transform the device into a great computer. The handset can run a full Mozilla Firefox 3.6 browser and also offers support for Adobe Flash Player for a great web browsing experience.

“Motorola ATRIX is designed to essentially become a user’s primary digital hub to create, edit and interact with documents, media and content,” says Megan Nicholas, mobile devices lead for Motorola Mobility, South Africa.

“This is done through the Motorola webtop application and incredible new accessory docks, such as the Lapdock, that provide users with a larger screen, keyboard and trackpad enabling them to have an enhanced and more interactive computer-like experience with their devices,” continued Nicholas.

The specifications list of ATRIX includes a dual-core application processor clocked in at 1GHz, along with 1GB of RAM, and a qHD display for a great experience when viewing photos or videos while on the go.

Moreover, the new mobile phone comes with a rear-facing camera with HD video recording capabilities, and with 16GB of internal memory, with a microSD memory card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB.

The specs list of ATRIX also includes 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 802.11n support, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, and a 1930 mAh battery to deliver increased usage time.
