Motorola is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new version of its already popular Motorola ATRIX smartphone, which was launched in early 2011 on the airwaves of AT&T in the United States, and which already arrived on shelves in other markets around the world as well.

The Motorola ATRIX was launched with a dual-core application processor inside, capable of offering great performance capabilities, but it seems that the successor might be even more powerful that that.

Moreover, it is expected to sport enhanced capabilities and specs, and might even sport a different look, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

One of the main improvements when compared to the current version of Motorola ATRIX would be the 8-megapixel photo snapper that the successor might include.

Apparently, it would offer support for 1080p video recording, the same as some of the latest flagship Android-based handsets out there do (such as Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation).

The images available with the new smartphone courtesy of it168 (via) offer us the possibility to have a look at the device and at its high-quality photo snapper.

Rumor has it that the new device would also come with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, larger than the one available with the original ATRIX, which was of 4 inches. It will also come with a dedicated camera button.

At the same time, the mobile phone should arrive on shelves with a slightly different design, with the power switch and 3.5mm headphone jack having a different position, it seems.

The handset might become available with the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, and it appears that the MOTOBLUR interface was not packed into the mix as well.

Yesterday, Motorola confirmed plans to bring to the market a new set of devices before the end of the ongoing year, and the successor for the ATRIX might be among them.

Since the original landed at AT&T with support for the carrier's HSPA+ network, we can assume that the upcoming handset would also offer 4G connectivity, maybe even LTE capabilities.
