Mobile phone carrier AT&T officially confirmed on Thursday that the Motorola ATRIX 4G smartphone would arrive on its shelves as soon as February 22nd, following a period of pre-order availability.

The handset, which runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, is touted as the most powerful smartphone on the market, courtesy of its NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core application processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM.

AT&T has put the Motorola ATRIX 4G on pre-order starting with February 13th, and, on Thursday it confirmed that devices that were ordered in advance would ship as soon as February 21st.

“We'll beat our target timing. ATRIX 4G in-store sales begin 2/22. Existing pre-orders will be shipped for delivery on 2/21,” a recent tweet from Seth Bloom reads.

Other reports on the upcoming availability of the handset also emerged into the wild, pointing at AT&T as the original source of this announcement.

The wireless carrier is also said to have confirmed plans to have all reserved units shipped on February 21st, either for in-store pick up or at customers' homes.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G will feature a price tag of $199.99 when on sale at AT&T (the same as pre-ordered units cost). Users can acquire the smartphone paired with a special Laptop Dock, at a price tag of $299.99 via the operator (on contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate).

“The MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G is so powerful that it redefines the line between a smartphone and a laptop. With NVIDIA Tegra dual-core technology and graphics, ATRIX 4G is the first handset that can be paired with a Laptop Dock to provide a connected laptop experience,” AT&T notes on its website.

“You now have full online computing power - whether it's surfing the Web with a full Firefox browser, creating and editing documents, or accessing all your photos, music, and movies from virtually anywhere.”

The handset comes with a 4-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) touchscreen display, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, HDMI, 3.5 mm headphone jack, GPS, a 5-megapixels snapper with 720p HD (1280 x 720) video recording and a 0.3MP camera on the front, or a microSD memory card slot (up to 32 GB of external storage).
