Should sport a QWERTY keypad

Mobile phone maker Motorola is reportedly getting ready to come to the market with its own mobile phone running under Google's Android operating system. The company already confirmed work with the platform, and even shed some more light on its Android plans for the future, yet no exact details on what device will come to the market have been unveiled, nor on when or what carrier might have it (if any).

According to a recent rumor that surfaced on The Street, Motorola's Android phone might not be that far into the future after all. It seems that some sources close to the mobile phone maker's plans have stated that the handset will come in the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, and that the carrier to have it will be Verizon.

These rumors might prove true in the end, as the company was reported to plan a handset for Verizon before, while its possible Android-based devices are no secret to the world. For those who might not remember, we already reported on the Motorola Morrison, a great-looking phone that might come to T-Mobile and Verizon, as well as on Motorola Heron, expected to surface in AT&T's lineup.

According to UnwiredView, the Motorola Calgary could be the handset to win the trip to Verizon's airwaves. Chances are that this will happen, as the phone features the QWERTY keyboard. Both Verizon and Motorola would benefit from the launch of an Android device, it seems, especially since the OS has seen a new version recently, making it more appealing to users, and should receive another one before the end of the year.

Motorola is already known to have shifted from Windows Mobile to Android, and it needs to come to the market with some more attractive devices fast, as things are not looking that good for it. It remains to be seen which of the supposed Android-based handsets the company will come up with first, though we must say that the likely winner could prove to be Morrison, headed for T-Mobile.
