Midway has announced that it plans to release a Kollector's Edition for its upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The name is appropriate and the content of the package will likely attract all hard core fans of the franchise.

The box art for the Kollector's Edition was painted by hand by renowned artist Alex Ross. An exclusive removable print also created by Ross will also be available in the box. Of course, more video content related to the game will be included in the special edition. John Tobias, who is the co creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, will write a comic, which will run for 16 pages. The strip is said to detail the events which lead to the possibility of the characters from Mortal Kombat crossing over in order to fight the heroes of the DC Universe. The price of the Kollector's Edition has not been announced, but Midway will probably put the game up for pre-order soon.

The game allows players to take charge of well known characters such as Sub Zero or Scorpion and take on superheroes like Superman or Batman. Although I think that Reptile should have been included, the rosters of the two sides in the game are pretty balanced and the new game modes, like Klose Combat and Freefall Kombat, will likely prove very interesting to long time players of the Mortal Kombat series. The game is also said to include a storyline, which could prove a liability for a game which has built a reputation because it offers the player the chance to beat up other characters. Long time fans should know that the game will have less gore and blood in order to get a Teen rating.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is supposed to be released sometime in November for the PlayStation 3 from Sony and for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
